Often a good writing is devalued by bad writing and, of course, the situation of being surrounded by so much information we have to swim through every single day.
News, facts, truth, lie... Don't you think that so often it's damn hard to make sense of it?
Damn hard, agree, but nevertheless, access to information is one of the biggest achievements of our civilization. No matter how tired you might feel navigating through all sorts of information, it's a great revelation just to think how good reading can change your life.
Well, we'll never become perfect in the end, you may say, but there is no doubt that by reading well-written books we can bring much more quality and understanding into this world.
I don't remember what was exactly the title of the first well-written book that I read, but it made a huge difference to me.
I hope our new selection of books in Romanian is a good start for those of you who haven't had such an experience yet. Remember: good reading can bring satisfaction.
Many ardent readers make our new collection sell fast. The online access to books for children and adults is a great thing! These books are all by Moldovan writers and illustrators with a taste of Moldova, good writing and even marvelous illustration.
For an enhanced reading experience we offer newly designed magnetic bookmarks. Easy to find and hard to loose it, this is what I can tell you about them.
Long story short: our new collection of books aims to value well-written books and enjoy reading!

]]>Forget-me-nots by Natalia Podlesnaia
But in Moldova it is still cold and, as we usually describe it, it is the time for Baba Dochia to throw away her coats. Coats? Baba Dochia? This is what Moldovans say when on a beautiful and sunny day snows with small and rapid or big and lazy snowflakes.
If you haven't heard about Baba Dochia yet, all you need to know is at least a legend about her to realise why this character became so popular and useful in understanding the power of nature and the power of hope.
It is said that once upon a time, there was an old lady called Baba Dochia. When her son Dragobete fell in love and told her that he married a girl, Baba Dochia became very furious. She decided to teach this girl a lesson, sending her on a cold winter day to the river to wash some black wool until it becomes white. The girl was threatened not to return home until the job was done.
Dragobete's wife realized that whitening the wool was an impossible task, but she still went to the river, hoping for a miracle. Her love was so strong that she could not imagine never to see her husband again. She started washing the wool in the frozen water of the river. But even when her delicate hands began bleeding, the wool was the same black.
Butuceni - Day with Wind by Eudochia Robu
Eventually, it had changed the colour into white after a stranger, touched by the girl's grief, approached her and gave her a red flower, asking her to throw it in the water.
When the girl returned home with the black wool now white, Baba Dochia was not happy at all, but when she saw the red flower pinned to the girl's blouse she believed that spring has come and hurried to take her sheep to the mountains.
Baba Dochia was dressed in twelve coats and as she climbed the mountain the weather began to warm up and this is why 12 days in the row she threw her coats away one by one until she remain only in a blouse.
But it was still winter and in the evening a cold wind started to blow. This is how Baba Docia and her sheep got frozen and turned into stone. They say you can see this if you visit Bucegi Mountains. Up on the plateau you cannot miss it! The strange stone formations look exactly like Baba Dochia and her sheep.
Happy spring to everyone! Happy spring to all our Toporaș artists!
And just to remind you what Toporaș means. It is our symbol! In Romanian this word means both a violet flower and a little hatchet.
All in one – simple, beautiful and powerful, full of love and elegance, predisposing one to imagination and allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts while feeling both the strength of red and the spirituality of blue.

The value of those paintings is in the skilfully depicted combination of the scenes with various human states of mind.
Winter Song, for example, emerges the viewer in a metaphorical transformation where the beauty and greatness of the winter time is just a sweet melody...
It's already Valentine's Day and, believe it or not, it feels embarrassing in a busy week with no present. You might still get some chocolates, but...
]]>Do you remember the day you fell in love? When the joy and sadness have poured into your soul almost at the same time? The sweet dreams that each of you had and the immense pain of loneliness?
Such moments are unforgettable and no matter what life brings next, they should be treasured, because without them there is no hope and no future.
The best present you can ever give anyone is your LOVE, but...
Here is an E-Voucher:
In case you'd like to be a bit more convincing. After all something in your hand is better than nothing.
No matter what you buy a card, a fine art print or an original painting. There is still time!
Choose what speaks most to your heart and mind, pay, print, write both names and give this special gift of art to your loved one!
I'll probably do exactly the same since I have been thinking today of those, who just like me, might have been too busy this week.
One more thing: Satisfaction is guaranteed!
Enjoy!

At the Windsor Art Fair, the Toporaș Online Art Gallery is representing three emerging Moldovan artists:
'Born 1982 in Suhuluceni, Teleneşti, Moldova, Lisița is currently based in Chişinău, the country’s capital. [...] The integral flavour of colours based on saturated tint offers his paintings depth, energy and polychromatic weight'.

]]>During the first two weekends of October, our exhibition drew attention primarily as a social event. The Toporaș Online Art Gallery at the Guild was part of the Wandsworth Artists’ Open House, which annually attracts those eager to explore new art trails.
Many art-lovers in the area were surprised to see paintings by Moldovan artists displayed in London for the first time. The general feeling they expressed was: “Different and so interesting”.
The exhibition featured original paintings by eleven leading Moldovan artists, all created in the post-Soviet period, when limits on free expression have been lifted and new aesthetic tendencies and painting techniques have been encouraged.
The challenges we faced in organising the first full-fledged exhibition of Moldovan fine art in London – indeed, the first such exhibition in the U.K. – were numerous. But the work was worth it. We enjoyed meeting art-lovers offline, and we found it a useful and fulfilling experience.
Some of the original paintings are still stored in London, but only for a limited time. In case anyone might still be thinking of getting a present for themselves or a friend -- and of getting a better deal than is available online -- we have created an electronic catalogue of the artworks still available this autumn.
Our new offer for most of the paintings includes FREE delivery in London and negotiable prices. Please get in touch for more details here or email us at fineartmoldova@gmail.com
Our next event for us is the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair (stand 93), on November 12-13. We will be exhibiting works of three of our artists: Veronica Iftodii, Gheorghe Lisița and Gheorghe Țărnă.
We hope that time will bring well-deserved appreciation for the artworks that we select and promote to make this world better by shaping it through art.

]]>One year ago, at this same time of the day, I was writing our manifesto to send to the Toporaș artists. Several minutes later, I was very excited to announce the launch of our online art gallery, a project aimed to promote Moldovan fine art internationally.
I remember going from room to room trying to keep my heart from jumping out of my chest. It was happening! The past and the future were right there, changing places: an end to all the preparations and a beginning to something new and as yet unknown.
Earlier the same year, somebody had warned me that I should be ready to face lots of disappointments. I knew there was no way to avoid this, but I hoped there would not be too many. I believe that when you are doing something from the heart, there is no way to avoid being hurt, but there is also a kind of internal power that always keeps you going.
The same person messaged me: “Pour some coffee, relax and wait for the art lovers to react”. It was nice of him to encourage me. I agreed: “Some coffee – and maybe some biscuits, too”.
Beautiful projects don’t come to life easily. But in one year’s time the Toporaș Online Art Gallery has got stronger. Our number of artists has nearly doubled. Well-deserved progress! And the most important aspect is that it attracts art lovers, encourages the artists and opens new perspectives for freedom of expression that can shape this world for the better.
We have lots of ideas to be implemented. But now it is the time to celebrate.
Happy anniversary!

I might not like the way Crimea was annexed by Russia, but my father served in the Russian Navy and the most amazing stories I have heard from him relate to this period in his life.
The reality was grim but mixed with more funny moments that you can imagine!
Long story short: My father is a lovely person, a former school teacher and a hard worker. He is not a good dancer, but he sings and plays by ear.
He built his house and a school for a village. And he became a tough guy in the army
where he was first an ordinary "салага" peeling potatoes. Then he advanced in rank and was in charge of several navy guys.He is 80 now, but his memory of the navy is so vivid! Would you forget when you were wearing a jump suit and a mask and then gassed to see how well you reacted? Or how you were given a week to go home as a prize for catching a couple of hundred rats on the ship? And so many more stories ...
And after all of that, my father is a very happy guy!
How do you find this painting now? Do you need more information?
No doubt, this image too can tell many stories. It is a self-portrait of one of our Moldovan painters who, were it not for his navy service, would probably never have become a painter. He is my father's age and a former teacher, as well.
After serving in the navy, Gheorghe Munteanu studied at the State Institute of Arts in Kiev. Read his story and look through his artworks here: https://fineartmoldova.com/pages/gheorghe-munteanu

The Switch House, Tate Modern's new...
]]>On 17 June 2016, over a weekend of celebrations, Tate Modern opened its new wing, the Switch House and London became home to the biggest museum of modern art on the planet.
The new Tate Modern: The Switch House
The Switch House promises to transform the experience of art. The purpose-designed gallery spaces involve even more international art and more art by women. A collection that is more 'diverse and engaging', says Tate Modern’s new director, Frances Morris.
The works are from artists around the world, currently representing over 50 countries.
Among them is Ana Lupas, Romania.
Her work The Solemn Process 1964 - 2008 (The Switch House, Level 3) comprises of 21 unique metal sculptures that aim to keep tradition alive. It is a project she started in 1964, when Lupas oversaw the creation of large straw structures in villages in Transylvania. She enlisted the help of villagers who used weaving techniques traditionally employed to make wreaths for harvest festivals. The activity fell into decline when in the mid-1970s, the economic and social changes in Romania made it difficult for participants to continue. Lupas could no longer ensure that the objects would be made each year. She tried different ways to preserve them, first by restoring the original wreaths, then by drawing them. Eventually, in the early 2000s, she developed the technique of sealing them in metal ‘tins’. This solution satisfied the artist as a practical means of preservation and a way of combining the natural and traditional ‘wreaths of wheat’ with modern, industrial associations through the metal casing.

Visitors are even invited to engage with some of the artworks. Here are a few examples:
Ricardo Basbaum's Capsules (NBP x me-you) 2000, an installation which, as described, involves wall drawings, a soundtrack, a book and a series of bed-capsules which visitors are invited to occupy. It aims to explore communication, human consciousness and the interaction between people.

Marwan Rechmaoui's Beirut Caoutchouc 2004-8 is a detailed floor-based rubber map of Beirut. Visitors are permitted to walk over it. This way they can engage with the artist's representation of a city which has shown great resilience in the face of earthquake, fire and war.

Amalia Pica's Strangers 2008 is a performance work in which two people who have never met before hold a string of bunting that keeps them 10 meters apart. This is 'a distance that allows for talking, but not intimately...[...] their bond also establishes their separation' explains the artist.
Strangers 2008 by Amalia Pica
The installations also include the famous Tree 2010 (The Switch House, Turbine Hall, Level 1) by renowned Chinese contemporary artist and activist Ai Weiwei. It was made by piecing together individual dry branches, roots and trunks from different species of trees from across China. The artist explains that the work celebrates the Chinese custom of displaying distinctive tree trunks and curiously shaped roots as home decorations.
Previously the Bankside Power Station designed by Sir Gilbert Scott (an English architect who also designed the famous red telephone box!), Tate Modern's new 64.5m 10-storey building was designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron. 'As well as doubling the gallery space, The Tate Modern Project will create a diverse collection of public spaces dedicated to relaxation and reflection, making and doing, group learning and private study.' Herzog & de Meuron.

Cladding brickwork and city-view
On the inside, levels 1 to 9 hold galleries, a members’ room, education spaces, a restaurant and staff offices.
Level 10 is a viewing level - an open terrace where visitors are welcome to enjoy a beautiful free 360° view of the London skyline.
London skyline view from Level 10, The Switch House
Level 0 holds The Tanks. Previously filled with oil that fueled the turbines of the old power station, the space has now been given over to various forms of art involving film, sound and live performance.
An example is another Romanian artist, Alexandra Perici and Manuel Pelmuș, who together with other performers use their bodies to transform artworks, some of which are well-known works from the Tate collection, originally made in other media.

Another example is Tarek Atoui's The Reverse Collection 2016 which is an improvised performance with ten instruments.

]]>One of the interesting things at the exhibition in Stratford-Upon-Avon was watching people engage with the paintings of our artists – spending time, almost having a dialog with the artwork and letting it speak to them.
One art lover was particularly taken with Gheorghe Tarna’s painting ‘Gossip’. He studied it in detail and at varying distances. The birds, he decided, were noisy and gossipy species depicted in contrast to the chairs that, according to his view, silently showed so much character.
Another gentleman spent time examining Ghenadie Sontu’s painting ‘The Secret’. He was particularly impressed by the fine detail, both in the depiction of the cloth bag that lies draped on the table, and of the wall.
An artist particularly appreciated Cezara Kolesnik’s ‘Me, You and the Poppy Field.’ She liked Kolesnik’s use of colour – particularly the reds. And she expressed curiosity regarding the legend that lies behind the work.
It was gratifying to see the works of our artists eliciting serious and sustained attention. There is something about these works that draws people in, that makes them want to know more and that invites them to spend time understanding how the painting speaks to them.
More people will get the chance to engage with these paintings in a few days in London. The paintings will be on display at the Fine Art Trade Guild’s London Exhibition Space between May 15 and May 28.

Summer days in England are very beautiful. When the long days arrive, the rain stops being so nasty and persistent, the sun brings its gentle kisses and all the fields and streets are in bloom. Summer days in England are like beautiful dreams you never want to end.
Have you seen the fine art print Summer Day by Cezara Kolesnik? Sharp, detailed and vibrant! It could make your dream about summer days never die.
‘I have a vivid memory of this warm summer evening, hills and those golden flowers, which like little stars were dripping their petals for several days until they were gone", says the artist.
Kolesnik painted it from her memories of summer days in Moldova, where she was born and raised, but the value of this giclée is universal.
The Toporaș Online Art Gallery has recommended that it be nominated for the best 2016 Up and Coming Artist Award in the UK. The UK Fine Art Trade Guild organised an online voting, giving the public the opportunity to have a say in choosing the best image worth of this award. The winner will be announced during the Art and Framing Convention 2016 in Stratford-Upon-Avon on the 7th of April.
This is why, soon, Kolesnik's Summer Day will travel virtually to the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
We hope it will capture attention, because beyond the Moldovan tradition to plait wreaths of flowers during a midsummer celebration, it reconstructs so precisely the summer spirit on the both sides of the English Channel, when it is still time to dream, to love and to be happy.
Whenever it happens. Whenever the time is right.
